Around sebagai kata keterangan (Adverb)

BrE = British English

AmE = American English

1. Kira-kira, kurang lebuh, sekitar (approximately)

    (around = about)

    contoh : - He arrived around five o'clock.

                  - The cost would be somewhere around $50.

2. Di setiap sisi, sekeliling. ( on every side, surrounding)

    contoh : - I could hear laughter all around.

                  - A yard with a fence all around.

3. (AmE) (BrE biasanya menggunakan 'round') Berputar, bergerak melingkar (moving in a circle)

    contoh : How do you make the wheel go around?

4. (AmE) (BrE = round) Diameter, diukur secara melingkar (measured in a circle)

    contoh : An old tree that was at least ten feet around.

5. Di dalam atau ke banyak tempat (in or to many places)

    contoh : - We were all running around trying to get ready in time.

                  - This is our new office -  Kay will show you around.

6. Digunakan untuk melukiskan suatu kegiatan yang tidak mempunyai tujuan.

    contoh : - There were several young people sitting around looking bored.

7. Hadir di suatu tempat, ada. (present in a place, available)

   contoh : - There was more money around in those days.

                 - I knocked but there was no one around.

                 - Digital TV has been around for some time now.

8. Aktif atau terkenal dalam bidang olah raga, profesi atau yang lainnya.

    contoh : - A new tennis champion who could be around for a long time.

                  - She's been around as a film director since 1980s.

9. (AmE) (BrE = round) Putar balik, balik arah ( in a circle or curve to face another way or the opposite way)

    contoh : - She turned the car around and drove off.

                  - They look around when he called.

Have/has been around

- Sudah berpengalaman banyak (to have gain knowledge and experience of the world.

contoh : - people really respect Mr Donnie for he's been around. 

Around sebagai kata preposisi (Preposition)

1. Disekelliling, dikelilingi, sekitar, di setiap sisi (surrounding, on each side of something)

    contoh : - The house is built around a central courtyard.

                  - He put his arms around her ( = he hugged her).

2. Di, pada, ke atau dari sisi yang lain ( on, to or from the other side of somebody or something)

    contoh ; - Our house is just around the corner.

                  - The bus came around the bend.

                  - There must be a way around the problem.

3. Berputar, mengelilingi ( in a circle)

    contoh : - They walked around the lake.

4. Menyesuaikan, menyocokkan ( to fit in with particular people, ideas etc)

   contoh : - I can't arrange everything around your timetable.

5. Dalam, ke banyak tempat ( in or to many places in an area)

    contoh : - They walked around the town looking for a place to eat.
